Number of New Parties
Building on Sikk (2005), new parties are considered to be those that are “not successors to any previous parties, have a novel name and structure”, and are not mergers (or electoral coalitions) of pre-existing political parties. It is important to note here that only new parties with more than 0.5 per cent of the vote are included. Independents are also excluded.
